European DH Championships & EWS #3 - The Results

Another great weekend of racing!
With less than two weeks to go before DH World Cup #4 in Lenzerheide, several of our riders travelled to Maribor, Slovenia, for the European DH Championships. It was ideal race prep for the return of the World Cup and between them they’ve gone home with several medals!

Her home race and she did it again! Monika Hrastnik became European Champion for the second time in a row! She dominated the track that she knows by heart, despite some sections soaked from the rain during the week, plus a new very fast section to contend with. This is Monika's 3rd European title after also winning in 2018 and 2021! Just behind her was DORVAL COMMENCAL AM teammate and leader of the women’s DH World Cup overall series, Camille Balanche! It was close to a 100% COMMENCAL podium with Siel Van Der Velden taking a nice 4th place.

After three silver medals in a row, Benoit Coulanges took the bronze medal this time! Mattéo Iniguez performed well coming 7th, despite the extra responsibilities of being rider/manager of the COMMENCAL Vee DH Team. There were also good performances from Ferran Jorba (15th) and Raphael Iniguez (20th).

Our thoughts go out to Jerôme Caroli too, after he had a heavy fall in the final and was evacuated to hospital in Geneva. We hope to see him back soon!

As for the youngest competitors, Sacha Brizin took a nice 8th place in the U15s. In U17, Till Alran had a superb race for his first year in the category and finished 7th. His brother Max was 8th, a very encouraging result for his return from injury. In Junior Women, Lisa Boudalou climbed onto the podium with a brilliant 3rd place! The next generation are coming...

The weekend also saw Enduro World Series #3 take place in Val Di Fassa, in the Italian Dolomites. The work and perseverance of the COMMENCAL Enduro Project is starting to bear fruit! The consistency of the riders has impressed and the big performances are coming in, like an excellent 7th place from Alex Rudeau! Like the work we do with our DH teams throughout the year, the COMMENCAL Enduro Project continues to push the research on data and settings every day, and this is now being reflected in the results.

It was also a good weekend for Louis Jeandel who finished 16th, but a trickier race for Guillaume Larbeyou, 32nd.

Antoine Vidal was still pushing through the pain that has persisted since his fall last week, and he finished in 23rd place.

Jack Piercy is getting closer to the top step of the podium in Junior Men with a 3rd!
