The 23rd edition of the Mountain of Hell kept all its promises. New date, revised route, 900 riders at the start and a fourth victory for Kilian Bron!
In partnership with the resort for this year, there were a lot of activities on the program, starting with a preview showing of “Fuego" on Thursday evening. An hour of intense and magical imagery in the presence of Kilian Bron himself, to relive his crazy trip across South America. A moment with friends appreciated and some inspiration before things got started.
Friday was a day of discovering the mountain to see what the riders had in store, a little exploration to get our bearings with the mountain you could say. This happening all before going to drink a beer to check out the new META V5 and 365, or straight into bringing out your inner big kid with getting behind the bars of a RMNS 20 for the COMMENCAL CRAZY RACE.
Saturday made the way for qualifying heats via the sublime Gours valley before diving into the legendary run in Cuculet. A 100% natural, narrow track where the start is essential. It was Kilian who set the best time before taking a well-deserved rest at the COMMENCAL AFTER RIDE party at the Place des 2 Alpes.
Rise and shine at dawn on Sunday for our team who served coffee at the foot of the Jandri Express to some 800 riders for this final. Suffice to say, they were not disappointed! With a start at the foot of the glacier on perfectly groomed snow, we saw the best riders reach speeds of more than 100 km/h. Pierre Thévenard achieved the holeshot without failing, to be taken on by Camille Servant who had found the line to get out of this snowy section. Just behind in pursuit was Kilian and his META V5 which will make all the difference on the pedalling sections. The climb that joins the ridges can be fatal in terms of the race. Kilian took full advantage of his experience, his fitness, and the Virtual Pivot Point (VCS) kinematics of the new META V5 to take the lead. He would not lose the lead again from here to the finish, even having a flow trail session on Black Garden slope, the new part of the final of this MOH that joins Vénosc.
